We need lots of these alternative bags to help our community transition to the plastic-free shopping habit of bringing their own bags. Come and join in some creative fun (with a social purpose). There are plenty of non-sewing jobs, but these things are always needed:
- sewing machine
- material (to donate)
These community-created Boomerang Bags are placed at participating local shops and are available free to Borrow & Bring Back. They encourage a habit of re-use amongst local shoppers and are part of a transitional strategy to encourage the use of natural alternatives AND Ban Single-use Plastic Bags in our Shire (and the world)!
This is a joint campaign by the Wasteless Pantry and Mundaring in Transition.
Hope we see you soon, so sign up for Workshop Reminders.
Boomerang Bag making with just a few days notice, a rainy day and yet … we had a hugely productive day. Especially thanks to the younger generation “doin’ time with Nan”. That’s Community Service time, an idea we’re keen to see replicated all over the Shire. Will these Facebook pics do as proof for Helena College, or do we need to sign your logs. Bonus …. there were yummy cookies as well! What are you waiting for? Organise a sewing group soon. We can help you. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org
The Down to Earth mob’s Spring Seed Sharing & Planting (Sat morning 10 Sep) was great fun, as usual. Some hands-on seed raising soil mixing, then share, plant & socialise in that order. Vera explained that the e calendula flowers that were growing there in abundance, could be infused in oil for several weeks to be the base of a healing cream (stay tuned for more cream making)
Lots of people turned up to share the buzz and get some inspiration & support for Plastic Free July. The weather was sunny & bright, perfect for the stall outside at Midland Farmer’s Market and for the speakers and activities inside the beautifully refurbished historical Old Midland Courthouse. It was a great collaborative effort organised by EMRC, Swan Shire, HSG, Wasteless Pantry & MiT. Huge THANK YOU to all the super speakers & demo helpers who contributed to the morning.
Some of us here at MiT have done this course and it’s really worthwhile. You’ll get right inside the latest info on waste and why it really matters that we all make changes! Register http://www.rgang.org.au/earthcarersregistration.html
Look at these FREE TOURS and workshops EMRC are running for National Recycling Week coming soon. Cleanaway is the contractor who handles all the Mdg Shire yellow bin stuff. Sign up to see what happens to it … http://www.rgang.org.au/national-recycling-week.html
These large aviaries were being donated to Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Sanctuary by the McFarlane Family. MiT was asked to help out and David, Ken & Jarrah stepped up to assist with the dismantling. With the wet & wild weather that unfolded, it was a pretty soggy experience but after a few hours it was DONE. Flat packed!! Just hope the cockies appreciate their new homes. Well done boys!
