We’re taking the WA Local Govt. advice to heart and have just started circulating a PETITION TO BAN SINGLE USE PLASTIC SHOPPING BAGS in The Shire of Mundaring. The issue will be brought to a Council meeting in mid-August so please sign to show our Councillors that there is widespread support for this within the Shire. Find them currently at Kinfolk Cafe & Leaf & Bean Cafe opp. Woollies. If you want a petition for your business or can help collecting signatures in your area, just message us here at email@example.com
Outcome of the Shire Council Meeting motion from Tues 13 Jun (to Ban Single Use Plastic Bags). The motion, as it was presented by Cr. Trish Cook at last night’s meeting was not passed, but is also NOT OVER! A new motion was formulated and the serious conversation has now begun. So start talking about it with your family, your friends, in your groups & especially important: with local businesses in the Shire.
Here is the amended motion that was made … see more

Many of us at MiT are not big fans of the multi-national fast food concept, especially when our town already seems to have a plethora of them and another about to appear in Sawyers! So we put together a petition to see who else felt that way. Then, when people said “Don’t bother, the Shire won’t take that into consideration” we decided to write a formal group submission of objection to represent all the people who needed their opinions voiced. Today we submitted it at the Shire of Mundaring just before the deadline. Building the community we want takes time & commitment, but we’re up for it. Thanks for your support.
Desperate times call for creative protests and it doesn’t get much more creative than knitting! Combine your craft and your passion against fracking, gas and greed (and get scones)
Anyone keen to be part of a Hills Loop? You don’t even need top be a Nanna – all ages can join the knit ins!
What: KNAG (Knitting Nannas Against Gas … or fracking) Perth Loop Inaugural Meeting
When: Sat 12th March, 10 am
Where: Lotteries House, 2 Delhi Street, West Perth – easy stroll from CIty West train station and there should be enough free parking available.
Bring a Name Tag if you have one, otherwise we’ll sticker.
Do invite interested friends, neighbours, church and craft group members and family members to come along.
If the weather is fine I suggest we roll over to the little park across the street and sit by the waterfall. Bring camping chair for that occasion if you have. I’ll bring a few extra.
Plan for the morning:
* Have fun
* Get to know each other and the skeletal plan to ‘knit over Perth’, or crochet, or quilt or embroider.
* Plot out how to proceed – e.g. NOR group, SOR group, or Northern, Central, Southern groups? & How to set up for all hands on deck opportunities such as the big LNG conference coming up in April
* Bring nibbles / drinks / crafting as desired
We are also working with local people on (re)establishing groups in the South West and in the Cervantes -> Moora area, so spread the word in those directions too.
Exciting. Hope many of you can make it!
MiT were part of the huge crowd who poured into Wellington Square and then on to the streets of Perth. An 8,000 strong message sent to politicians that we expect them to take Climate Change seriously and work, like us, to create a more sustainable future.
